So a few weeks ago I posted a comment made by Sam to Kalen in which he announced that "we [were] getting a new baby!" We laughed about it and even made facebook jokes. Someone had mentioned that maybe Sam knew something we didn't. Well, I stated clearly that he didn't know something because at the time I was certain I wasn't pregnant. The last two months of ovulation tests have stated that I wasn't ovulating so being pregnant wasn't possible. Kurtis and I were even prepared to talk to the doctor about fertility medication. Well, never doubt a six year old who apparently has connections with the big man upstairs. Because we were (and are) pregnant. I never cease to be amazed at the way the Lord surprises us. I've had some odd promptings lately and prayed until I thought my heart would burst. I've kicked, screamed, whined, cried, gnashed my teeth (though I stopped at rending my clothing) and basically called out my Father in Heaven to give me my request and when He sent a little message via my son, I hesitated and called his bluff! Well, I get it. Sam indeed knew something that we didn't know!
And now that we know it, I'm sick as a dog. A lot of people have asked me how it usually goes for me in pregnancy and the truth is: every pregnancy has been different for me. With Sam, if I was awake, I was nauseous.....all throughout the first trimester. By the time the 2nd trimester hit, I was loving life and food. I gained 35 lbs in 3 months with Sammy and loved it! I gained a total of 56 lbs with him and then gave birth to a 10 lb. boy! With Izzy, I just ate small meals and kept the nausuea at bay for the most part. I gained around 30 lbs and had an average 7lb 6oz girl. With Kalen, I was great during the day but at 6pm on the dot, the morning sickness would kick in and would even wake me up in the middle of the night. I had to take sleeping pills to get any sleep. I gained about 30 lbs with him and he was 7lbs. 9oz. With that being said, I also have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. My g.i. doctor told me stories of women who have had their IBS cured after being pregnant. With Sam and Isabel my IBS wasn't cured but I had no symptoms while pregnant. With Kalen, I struggled to control my IBS and had a hard time. With this baby, my IBS attacks occur almost daily even while I take my medication. That with the constant nausea, I'm having to remind myself that I want this. And I do! I do want this....but maybe with a little less ickiness! I'm thankful for my chance to be a mom. It is so much more....more.....MORE....than I ever thought it would be! More fun, more anxiety, more smiles, more frustration, more love, more crying.....you get the idea! But still I am so blessed to have my little people (even the one that is making sick!).
So there you have it: happy news wrapped up in a mommy-sick burrito! I think I'll have to start paying more attention to Sam when he spouts off things that we think impossible!

Spring Break
Sam had Spring Break last week and though I tried to plan fun things for us to do, it was just not very eventful. Kurtis had to work during the week and there is only so much that I'm willing to do with three kids by myself. My mom and dad went with us to the Air Force Museum on Monday and though we've been there many times before, we had a great time. Papaw even bought us lunch in the cafeteria and we let the kids get souvenirs from the shop at the Museum. Daddy also drove from the other side of the base to meet us for lunch. Sam picked out his favorite plane b/c it had teeth painted on it. We posed for pictures next to Mamaw's favorite plane (the B-52)! She can't seem to understand how such a big plane can make it into the air:) We also got a picture of Papaw and Joseph Kalen next to a plane called "Little Joe". The Joseph in Joseph Kalen is after my dad! Kalen picked a backpack of Air Force One planes, helicopters, and cars as a souvenir, looked at my mom, and exclaimed "Ma, look cars!" It was so cute. He then promptly passed out in the back of the van on the way home clutching his beloved backpack. Izzy also enjoyed seeing the sights but her favorite moment was riding on Papaw's shoulders:)
I forgot to mention the stuffed messenger pigeon at the museum. As we stood there and explained it all to Sam, Kalen pointed to the bird and very clearly yelled "Duck!" Apparently we were all wrong and it was not a messenger pigeon but a messenger Duck, according to Kalen!

General Conference and Easter too!
The last week has been one of a lot of family and a lot of food. Not a bad situation to be in!
Saturday and Sunday, March 31 and April 1 was General Conference and we decided to watch at home. I made a WONDERFUL velveeta/salsa chip dip that I make every conference along with brownies and some other goodies for Saturday!
The kids decided to get out their animal pillows and blankets to watch and I made this super cool poster that allows you to put a general authority at the pulpit when it's their turn to speak. Izzy was all over that one:)
The Saturday before Easter, Sammy and Isabel were invited to a playdate with Sam's friend from school. Bennett has a little sister that will be in kindergarten with Isabel next year so their mom invited both kids over. I thought they might be a little nervous but they were so excited. They had a picnic outside for lunch and I guess Sam said "Can I say the blessing on the food since I'm a visitor and I'm the oldest?" It cracked me up b/c he knows we usually allow the oldest to decide who prays. I guess he's at least learning something. Tricia (Bennett's mom) also told me that the kids were so well behaved that she would have them come over anytime! I love when my kids behave when they are visitors. They really do learn something when you harp at them:) Meanwhile, Kalen took major advantage of having Daddy all to himself. I got a pic of them working out in the yard together.
Easter morning, my nephews got baptized at their church. It was a real learning experience for Sam. He's taken so much for granted that we all believe the same way. Earlier in the week, while reading scriptures before bed, Kurtis told Sam a story of someone who learned about the Book of Mormon. It led to a discussion about people not of our faith. I explained to Sam that not everyone believes in the Book of Mormon, including Mamaw, Papaw, etc. Sam sat up straight and said "you mean that they don't believe in the scriptures." Kurtis said "They believe in the Bible Sam but not the Book of Mormon." I went on to say that missionaries went out and taught people about the Book of Mormon. He very innocently replied "I just don't understand." He also asked why Tom and Kris were being baptized when they were both older than eight. We explained that some people get baptized when they're older. Yeah, he really is learning a whole new thing now.
We did get some pictures of the kids in their cute Easter outfits. The Easter bunny did good this year and even Kalen got into the candy eating (hence the chocolate on his face in his picture).

On Sunday, Grandpa and Grandma Eber came to visit and eat more delicious food. We had an egg casserole that I learned from Cindy Floyd and then for dinner we had roast, potatoes, and carrots. We went for a walk in the neighborhood and just had a nice time with Kurtis' folks.

conversations from the back of the van
While driving today, from the back of the van I hear:
Sam: "Mom, look's like there's a storm coming in from the left."
Izzy: "How can you tell?"
Sam: "See how the clouds look all full?"
Izzy: "What does it mean?"
Sam: "Well, the water evacuates into the clouds and when the clouds are all full, then it rains."
Izzy: "Oh, I already knew that from preschool. Joseph's mommy taught me."

our own little sitcom episode
after asking me a question and hearing me say "I don't know!", Sammy replies "I thought moms knew everything."
me: "I wish moms knew everything too..but I'm sorry we don't"
Sammy: "do dads know everything?"
me: "No Buddy, dads don't know everything either."
Sammy: "man, wouldn't be cool if they did?"
I love my boy!
Sam also asked me a few days ago "why do you think Jesus made our eyebrows to go up and down?" just another question with which I replied "I don't know!"
