out with the old, in with the new

So 2015 fizzled out for me.  I haven't been as diligent on my blog as I would like.  I was hoping to spend some time working on a quilt while the kids were on break but alas, I stink at time management.  so that's okay!  While listening to a conference talk the other day, Pres. Uchtdorf said "start where you are" and move on from there.  So here I am, starting where I am!
Over break, we were very excited to get Zeke potty-trained!  He still wears a diaper at night but for the most part, the kid knows what to do and where to go!  For the first time in over 10 yrs, I am not daily changing diapers!  That is enough to make a girl whoop for joy.....now on to our next adventure.
In November, Kal was diagnosed with ADHD.  It was not something that surprised me but I also know this will not be an easy road.  We decided over Christmas break to begin his medication so I could monitor how his behavior changed.  After 2 weeks of no change we knew we needed to up the dosage.  Unfortunately, that was also when school started up again.  So far he has had great days at school.  The ordeal comes each morning when I attempt to help a 6yo swallow a pill.  It is a small pill and some days, it's a cakewalk.  On days like today where I spent 45 minutes fighting with him to stop spitting it out, only to have him wallow only half of the pill, well, I feel like a failure.
Being a mom is hard.  You love these little things with all your heart and doeverything you can to help them thrive, succeed, and be happy.  But sometimes, you just can't do it for them and it is so hard to watch them struggle.  Today is a rough day, where I am reminded of my limitations and must move forward from where I am and try to be better in the moments to come.  I know that Kalen will grow to be an amazing man and what limits he has now will not dictate who he becomes but boy, do I wish today had been an easier start.
